My mum met me at the airport at 8am - so very kind because that is too early to be up on a Saturday! We went for breakfast at Cora's which was pretty good but not as good as Picasso's... I am sorry to say that Picasso's has closed, sigh - I loved their blueberry pancakes.
We then made our way to Hilly's place to help her pack up for the big move. She and Hadwen have bought the most beautiful condo. It is 80 + years old and has beautiful details and wonderful character. Its in the really nice Mile End district - its close to everything. Hilly's friend Tara Safford also came over with her daughter Finley, who is almost 2 and we had a great afternoon hanging out, catching up and talking about babies and pregnancy - yeah!!!
After several hours of packing and organizing, Hilly announced that we were going to go to Hadwen's parent's house for a BBQ. It was such a treat -she and Hadwen really know how to put on a "grown up" party! At around 11pm we called a night, I had a busy day ahead of me and I needed to try and get some sleep since I had been up since 5:30am!
On Sunday morning, Dad, Sophie and I went to Knowlton to visit my Gramma and Grandpa so they could meet their first great grand daughter! My cousin Mathew and his fiance Karen and their daughter Megan, my Aunt Margot and Uncle Butch also came over. Megan is 3 weeks younger than Sophie and is absolutely adorable. She and Sophie got along really well and we got some great pictures. Sophie kept trying to take off Megan's shoes and Megan kept taking Sophie's giraffe and soother - very funny!
Margot gave me 2 beautiful smocked dresses - so pretty! After lunch we took some more pictures and we got the very important 4 generation photo of my grandparents, my dad, Sophie and I. Sophie was falling asleep so we went as quickly as we could!
On our way home we stopped in to see my Uncle Jamie and Aunt Kathy (Mathew's parents) and had a really nice visit. After leaving their place we drove through Chambly which is where my dad grew up and where I lived until I was 6 years old. Not much has changed, a few fields are now subdivisions but mostly it was just as I remembered it. Fort Chambly is a fantastic historic site and I can't wait to take the kids there when they are older.
That night, Hilly and Hadwen and Kerry and Alex came over to Dad and Susan's for supper. It was so nice to catch up and just hang out with everyone - I wish Jill and Andrew and Anthony and the boys could have been there... maybe at Christmas :) : )
On Monday morning, I was going to meet Dad for lunch downtown but poor little Sophie was sick so we stayed in to make sure she was OK. After her nap, she seemed better and ate some lunch so I decided to venture out to Ikea with Mum. So many nice things but so little room to bring anything back, sigh... I really do miss Montreal shopping! I made a quick trip through Montreal West to Percival Avenue to take pictures of the house I grew up in to show the kids - it hasn't changed a bit, even the flower barrel is on the front step!! Well, the tree in the front yard is huge but otherwise it looks exactly the same!
Tuesday morning, Dad drove Mum, Sophie and I to the airport. Mum was flying back with me and had got her boarding pass the day before but there happened to be a little "storm" in the Maritimes that somehow we didn't hear about. Needless to say, Mum didn't get on the flight : ( but she did did manage to get one on Wednesday -yeah! The boys were thrilled!! ) I got home and nearly collapsed from exhaustion - I don't think I slept more than 12 hours total while I was in Montreal : )
It was an amazing trip and I miss everyone already!
